I just watched a video about why you shouldn't start your presentation with "good morning" or "good afternoon", and it got me thinking. Is it really such a bad thing to start your presentation with a "normal" greeting? What is the best way to start a presentation or stage appearance?
After mulling this over for a while, I've come to the conclusion that it's totally fine to greet your audience in a normal way! You are starting a conversation with a group of individuals and it's natural to say hello or good morning. The important thing is for you to know what comes AFTER you greet them. And this is where the work begins.
The secret to great presentations is practice. I wish I could say that you will become a presentation superstar using "this one weird trick" but the weird trick is mostly time, patience, and rehearsal. As you are preparing for your next event, don't forget to rehearse your first few sentences as you step on stage to make sure they generate the kind of energy you want and grab the audience's attention.
